The Maui News WAILUKU – Bail remains at $150,000 for a Kihei man who was arrested after allegedly arranging to meet someone he thought was a teenage girl for sex. John Wilcox, 53, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree electronic enticement of a child and second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug. He was among 10 men arrested last year in a police sting operation. Appearing in court by videoconference Tuesday from the Maui Community Correctional Center, Wilcox asked for his bail to be reduced to an amount he could afford or to be released on supervision. Wilcox has a residence, employment and family ties, said Deputy Public Defender Ben Lowenthal.

Feb 2, 2021 The first case of COVID-19 was reported at the Maui Community Correctional Center when the Department of Public Safety said Monday that one inmate had tested positive at the Wailuku jail. The information was included in a report from the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center. It also reported a negative test result for another inmate. The Department of Public Safety did not immediately respond to a request for additional information about the case. On Jan. 18, when 275 COVID-19 tests were administered to Maui Community Correctional Center inmates, all tests were negative, the department reported. As of Jan. 18, 288 inmates were housed at the facility, which has an operational capacity of 301.
