WAILUKU – Bail remains at $150,000 for a Kihei man who was arrested after allegedly arranging to meet someone he thought was a teenage girl for sex.
John Wilcox, 53, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree electronic enticement of a child and second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.
He was among 10 men arrested last year in a police sting operation.
Appearing in court by videoconference Tuesday from the Maui Community Correctional Center, Wilcox asked for his bail to be reduced to an amount he could afford or to be released on supervision.
Wilcox has a residence, employment and family ties, said Deputy Public Defender Ben Lowenthal.

WAILUKU A judge kept bail at $10,000 for a man who allegedly used a piece of wood to attack an unarmed man at a Kihei encampment last year.
Morley Kaliczynski, 31, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault and first-degree assault.
He was arrested last month on the charges stemming from the assault Nov. 17.
With Kaliczynski in isolation Thursday at the Maui Community Correctional Center, his attorney, David Wiltsie, asked for bail to be cut in half so the defendant might have a chance of posting it.
Deputy Prosecutor Johann Smith asked for the bail amount to be maintained, saying Kaliczynski has no ties to the community.

He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree attempted murder for allegedly driving toward police officer Nichole Paclib as she was responding to a reckless driving call in Kula on Aug. 16.
Appearing by videoconference from the Wailuku jail, Ruggiero said he was in quarantine because of eight positive COVID-19 cases reported at the jail.
