Two newcomers were elected to the Guilford County Board of Education according to unofficial election results. Democratic candidate Alan Sherouse won the at-large seat with more than 100,000 votes. His Republican opponent, Demetria Carter, received just under 82,000 votes. In District 2, Republican Candidate Crissy Pratt won the seat against Democratic candidate Amanda Cook with about 58% of the vote. Seats in the three remaining districts up for election went to the incumbent candidates.
There are nine candidates vying for five seats on the Guilford County Board of Education. All of them attended a virtual forum Tuesday hosted by the Guilford County Education Alliance. Candidates were asked about what should be done to close the district’s persistent racial and socio-economic gaps in student learning outcomes. The two at-large candidates had very different answers.
