ALBANY, N.Y. The New York State Assembly announced on Wednesday that it has selected the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP to assist with its impeachment investigation into Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The choice immediately faced criticism from the attorney of a woman who has accused the governor of sexual harassment.

ALBANY: New York s Assembly has hired a top Manhattan law firm to assist in its impeachment investigation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, legislative leaders announced Wednesday in a pick that was quickly criticized by at least two women accusing the governor of sexually harassing them.
The Manhattan firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, which has more than 900 attorneys and offices around the world, will lead the probe, said Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Lavine.
The attorneys tapped to handle the investigation include Greg Andres, a former federal prosecutor who was on the team, led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, that investigated foreign meddling in the 2016 presidential election. ....

Ex-Cuomo aide to speak to investigators; Assembly picks firm to lead probe

ALBANY – A former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo who has accused him of fostering a hostile work environment will speak with investigators Thursday, becoming at least the second former Cuomo staffer to sit for an interview as part of the fast-moving sexual-harassment probe.
Ana Liss, who now works as Monroe County’s director of planning and development, said she has agreed to a Zoom interview Thursday afternoon with the investigators selected by state Attorney General Letitia James, who have asked her to block out three hours.

Assembly's impeachment law firm raises concerns

The Assembly’s impeachment investigation into Gov. Andrew Cuomo took a small step forward Wednesday, as Speaker Carl Heastie and Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Lavine announced they’ve hired a law firm to assist with the probe. But the announcement was met with almost immediate backlash because the firm, Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, has ties to Cuomo allies. The announcement also comes as Heastie reels from a leaked conference meeting in which some Assembly members suggested that he’s using the impeachment investigation to stall for time and potentially to protect Cuomo.
Three lawyers from Davis Polk will take charge with the Judiciary Committee to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct, Cuomo’s handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic and an alleged coverup of structural problems with the Gov.
