Sabina Matos from Dominican Republic to RI lt gov contender


PROVIDENCE  Sabina Matos s story begins in the Dominican Republic, where her mother was a teacher and her father  the mayor of our home town of Paraíso in the province of Barahona.
Her family came to the United States in 1994 looking for a better life, arriving in New York City on a Friday. Three days later, knowing little English, she went to work shuttling the designs for The Lion King -themed children s clothing between a Queens factory and Manhattan.  
Soon after, her family moved into an uncle s house in Olneyville, and her Rhode Island life began. 
Flash forward 27 years: she is the term-limited president of the fractious Providence City Council. She has more money in her campaign war chest ($223,027) than any other potential 2022 candidate for city mayor. ....
