Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited Bhalswa landfill site on Saturday and said about 45 lakh tonnes of waste from it is expected to be processed and reduced by May next year.
Kejriwal reviewed the status of the Okhla, Bhalswa, and Ghazipur landfills and expressed concern over the slow pace of progress of the removal of legacy waste Thursday directing MCD officials to form an action plan on landfill management within 15 days.
After migrating to the national capital with hopes of leading better lives, Delhi's waste pickers face extremely tough conditions, having to contend with hazardous living conditions, poor wages, a lack of representation and more.
