romney won the delegate vote in wyoming s county conventions on saturday. combined he added 39 delegates to his total this weekend, rick santorum got 36. in all romney leads santorum by 200 delegates. santorum rejecting that his rival s lead makes him the nominee. on the current track we re on right now, the fact is that governor romney doesn t get to that number. so the idea that you just make projecti projections, this is not a mathematical formula. someone who has out-spent 10-1 w all this wind at his back, yet he can t close the deal. i have my homestate yet to go. governor romney had about three of his homestates already. it s important to look to the future and see the opportunities we have. that s how we get back into this race.
people have already watched it. we want to welcome our viewers in the united states and around the world. i m wolf blitzer. you re in the situation room. rk vk captions by vitac www.vitac.com all that coming up, but now we get the latest on the kansas republican caucuses. i m don lemon at the cnn newsroom. kansas takes the spotlight in the republican race today. cnn is projecting that rick santorum has won the kansas caucuses. here s the totals here, check them out with nearly all the caucus votes counted, santorum won easily there. he has 51%. romney has a distant second at 21%. kansas is a conservative state with a strong evangelical vote, both playing to santorum s strengths. we bring in chief political correspondent candy crowley joining us live from washington. big picture here, romney and gingrich pretty much let santorum have kansas so his luck holds here. is this an important win? you know, i hate to sound like everybody else but the fact of the matter is
conservative sure, voters speak every time they vote. that santorum is the guy? that may be your conclusion from last night. i think we probably over invested in georgia, but we needed newt to win because it was his home state. and he had to win georgia, mission accomplished. he tripled his delegate vote, so that is what we wanted to get accomplished and and we will move on to mississippi and alabama and we will let those voters speak too, how about that? from your standpoint as a somebody who thinks in shorthand about who santorum voters are versus gingrich voters, what is that shorthand for you? what conservative republican in oklahoma or wherever votes for newt gingrich rather than santorum. and i don t want an answer if you can avoid it, specifying newt s character, but how do those people differ? how does santorum and newt differ in.
