so very, very, very bizarre. i have no idea why he d target that particular place but six people gone just like that. for the first time since her son s decades-old disappearance recently hit the headlines again, we re hearing from the mother of etan patz. julie patz spoke last night outside her new york city apartment saying, quote, this is taking my freedom away. i just wish this could be over. 6-year-old etan patz disappeared 33 years ago. this month a man named pedro hernandez confessed to kidnapping and murdering little etan. hernandez is on suicide watch at a new york hospital while police work to corroborate his statements. a hearing continues today in los angeles to determine if two men can be tried for attacking a rival fan at dodgers stadium on baseball s opening day last season. in evidence presented yesterday, one of the men, marvin norwood, was heard admitting to his own mother that he was involved. but norwood has also pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
friend of the family and of little etan s and in fact had been in that basement with him just the day before. so authorities hoped they can find some evidence that etan was down there. they have a search warrant, and they re trying to see where the evidence will lead them if they find any. it s been so long, susan. was this case kept open in part because the milk carton factor or is it common for a 33-year-old missing person s case to get this much police attention? reporter: well, certainly the case of etan patz was one of the very first, his case, feech ared on milk cartons way back when. but as we said, over the years, they ve been looking at various people, in connection with this case, but it was only recently, a couple of years ago when the local district attorney reopened the matter and started looking at old clues with the fbi. they re leading this investigation. that led them to this point where they are here today. it s because they had new information that they
