COVID-19 vaccines will be available for Del Norters ages 16 and above, Public Health Officer Dr. Warren Rehwaldt announced Thursday.
From a Thursday news release:
We have a very brief update today, but we wanted to get the word out as soon as possible.

This has taken place, despite the opening of new tiers, and of last week, anyone 50 and above in our county. With that trend in mind we are announcing today that Del Norte County is accelerating the eligibility process. ....

After nearly three years of flying Del Norters to Oakland, Contour Airlines will ask the community its thoughts on changing destinations to Sacramento.
The Smyrna, Tennessee-based airline has entered into a partnership with American Airlines that allows passengers to book a single ticket between both carriers, according to a Dec. 10 email from Contour CEO Matt Chaifetz to Del Norte County Regional Airport Director Randy Hooper.
Noting that American Airlines has no flights out of Oakland International Airport currently, District 3 Supervisor Chris Howard, Del Norte County’s representative on the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority, said he hopes people will attend the joint powers authority meeting Thursday to weigh in on the potential change. ....

Co-Chair Of State Vaccine Task Force Says California Has New COVID-19 Inoculation Scheduling System
COVID-19 inoculations haven’t come quickly enough, the co-chair of California’s vaccination task force admitted in a State Sen. Mike McGuire town hall meeting Tuesday.
Lori Nezhura, deputy director of planning, preparedness and prevention for the California Offices of Emergency Services, acknowledged the confusion around who is eligible to receive the vaccine currently. She pointed Northern California residents to a new scheduling system, MyTurn.ca.gov.
“Starting today, people will be able to leave their contact information so they can be notified when it’s their turn,” Nezhura said. “Right now we are piloting the system in Los Angeles and San Diego people can use My Turn to determine eligibility and make an appointment. Our hope is the appointment-setting capability will be statewide by the beginning of February.” ....

Most medical offices aren’t ready to inoculate their patients, but Del Norters should still let them know if they want the COVID-19 vaccine.
Though the Del Norte County Public Health Branch is expected to hold an “invite” vaccination clinic on Thursday for those in the Phase 1a category, the county doesn’t have enough doses to open the clinic up to everyone, Dr. Warren Rehwaldt told the ....
