San jose Police Officer shot in the line of duty tonight. The officer recovering in the hospital after a gunman ambushes her and her partner. City leaders this evening now expressing anger and sadness about the shooting. I am tired and angry that violence and firearms in the hands of those who shouldnt have them continue to be present in our communities , putting everyone in danger. Know, thats foremost after the shooting. The suspect holed up inside the home and refused to come out. A San Jose Police Armored Vehicle brought merge or swat officers to the scene. A sheriffs swat team also assisted tactical negotiators tried to convince the suspect to surrender peacefully. Then at about 1220, in the afternoon, a loud boom from a police flashbang grenade was deployed, as was tear gas. I was just standing looking at what was going on. And i heard a big old boom, vito rosales was nearby when he got caught up in the aftermath of the arrest. And i thought maybe i was like a little tired because my eyes just started watering. Then the aroma of like, ammonia came over me. I was like, wow. Then i see one of the guys jump out of the van, rosales said. Its clear the police had a switch tactics. Im sure they tried talking to him and there was just no, this was the solution, you know, fire something in there. And obviously it worked. I think thats just a little too close to home
