Hill. i mean, i think president trump has set into motion a series of events for which, frankly, his administration has not developed any sort of contingency planning around. so you know, there are going to be consequences that he s going to have to manage, whether it s the potential resurgence of isis, whether or not it s a humanitarian disaster, whether or not it s the turks and the syrians opening a new front. this has tremendous consequences down the road, and there s no national security process around this. like chris said, the president made this decision impulsively on a phone call, and i don t think they had any sense of how to manage the contingencies around this. kelly and i know you re not there right now, but you have been previously take us inside the national security council. how do they play this? what do they do? well, in a normal national security council process, there would be a series of options developed for the president, and those options would be weigh ....
There for a rally and there were a lot of calls cat calls against mccain. he s saddened by it. he s put off by it. but he doesn t want to address them point by point. he thinks when something comes out that s highly outrageous or wrong, he ll address it. and we as filmmakers knew that if we didn t kind of keep our blinders on and look at his narrative story without getting caught up in the political noise of the day, we would never kind of focus in on the true mccain. it sounds like he s assessing his life, of course, and he is i guess being honest about some of the things he wishes he had done differently and his regrets. your film has already made news for the fact that he admitted that he feels he made the wrong pick for his presidential ticket. what did he tell you? i think it s a misunderstanding. he regrets that he didn t choose joe lieberman. he does not regret that he chose sarah palin. what s the difference? ....
It then sent the audio file to one of his employees in seattle. that employeehen called them to say that she had receid a strange voice recording of them. fortunately, the couple was not talking trash or doing something else. thank you. they were just speaking about hardwood floors. amazon confirmed the error and apologized, saying the alexa misheard a series of words. i don t think that cuts it. hardwood floors? that could really get awkward. oh, my god. listen, the joke s on them. put the alexa in your kid s room like i do so they get to listen to all the mundane, ridiculous conversations of our children. i ve taken mine out of the kitchen and given it to the kids. i like where you re going but i don t understand how alexa can record a conversation without us knowing and then send it to one of our employers or employees. this is truly big brother. this is getting spooky. ....
Interesting because it got the most conciliatory response i think we ve ever heard from the north. it did. i think that there was a strategy behind that, alisyn, and that was to position the united states as the party that withdrew and north korea as the reasonable party that wanted the talks. you know, i think we ve reached the limits or we ve seen the limits of improvisation. the president made this decision impulsively, didn t consult with his national security team, made it on his own, went out and said he was going to have this summit. in certain ways i m relieved that this has happened because these things take enormous preparation. you don t want to go into a summit between two leaders at that level without an understanding of what can be achieved. you know, i think if i had been writing the letter the president wrote, i would have said i don t think we re ready, i don t think we have a common understanding of our goals and the possibilities here, so let s take some time and h ....
Give to trump repeatedly. he didn t like that. the idea of unilateral denuclearization was never on the table for north korea. we should understand that in the united states, but ultimately trump made it sound as if his expectations were pretty high. it doesn t sound like the north was on the verge of cancelling. the letter that they gave back, this highly conciliatory letter to president trump. talking about the historic summit, we highly appreciated the fact that president trump made a brave decision that no president in the past has made and put efforts to make the summit happen. i mean it sounds like from the letter, but of course you can parse this for us, they are still willing to meet. if president trump called today and said it s back on, wouldn t it be back on? trump was the one that cancelled. you had axe on and they wanted to say, hey, it s not our fault. china is responsible for 90% of north korea s trade and they don t want to upset the chinese. look, the big news that ....
