Maria corina machado in venezuela, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you very much, stephen. It s a pleasure to be with you again. It s great to talk to you. It s two months now since venezuelans voted in the presidential election. Just tell me what has happened to you since that vote. Well, our victory by a landslide was something the regime didn t expect. As well as the fact that in less than 2a hours, we were able to collect, digitalise and put on a robust web page over 83% of the tally sheets, the official tally sheets that actually demonstrated our victory. It was a 70 over 30 victory, but if it had been a freer election, believe me, we would have won at least by 9010. So this was a huge defeat for the regime. Maduro is naked in front of the whole world and his followers. So his decision was to get surrounded and entrenched around the top brass of the military and in fact, unleash terr ....

For years, politicians have ramped up the rhetoric of concern and pledged to speed up emissions cuts, but now there are signs of a political backlash. Uk Prime Minister rishi sunak is championing new Oil Exploration and reining in spending on climate aid. That prompted my guest, zac goldsmith, to quit suna k s government. But in an age of populist politics, has going green become another ideologicalfaultline . Zac, lord goldsmith, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you for having me. Its a pleasure to have you here. And ifound myjob was becoming untenable, it was becoming impossible for me to go forward. It was becoming virtually impossible to prevent government from sliding back. And the key issue is this pledge which was made by borisjohnson, repeated by liz truss, repeated a few times by rishi sunak around International Climate finance, from which so much of what the uk has done over the last few years flows, and that pledge was being broken. You say, because it was a pledge of something over. £11. 6 billion over five years. Over five years to be invested i ....
