I work hard to live a very glamorous life. I mention this because yesterday, when I sent the Commentary out from the road at a glamorous McDonalds in Northern California (free Wi-Fi!), I noticed that the price of my usual glamorous Egg McMuffin meal (with OJ) has skyrocketed to $10.06 from $7.60 earlier this year! Not only that, but it seems that the portion size of the tasty “hashbrowns” and sandwich have dropped. At the “other end” of things, does it seem like toilet paper prices have gone up while the size of the roll has shrunk, especially compared to how big the TP holder is which serves as a constant reminder of how big the roll was previously? EUR/USD long-term bullish potential remains intact, 1.2500 seems a likely target. The American dollar had another bad week, falling to fresh 2020 lows against most major rivals. The EUR/USD pair peaked at 1.2272 and settled a handful of pips below it. The greenback was pressured by an optimistic mood related to Brexit talks and a US coronavirus relief package. The week went by and both issues remain unsolved, although investors are still waiting for positive news in the next couple of days. ....
The lack of local economic data releases this week may be offset by developments elsewhere in the country. In parliament this week, the Dewan Rakyat will continue to debate at the committee stage the Budget 2021 allocation for the defence, education and home ministries. Once voted upon, the budget will move to the Senate for the final vote. On Monday, at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, the hearing of the Malaysian government’s forfeiture bid to recover US$340.26 million (about RM1.4 billion) from PetroSaudi International Ltd and its subsidiary PetroSaudi Oil Services (Venezuela) Ltd (PSOSL) is scheduled before Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali. The hearing had been adjourned twice as PSOSL is said to be seeking a settlement with Putrajaya. ....
ASX to rise, Apple paces Wall St higher Save Share Australian shares are set to rise at the open, amid fresh gains in New York, including a record high for the Nasdaq. The currency, iron ore, oil and gold all rose too. ASX futures were up 45 points or 0.7 per cent to 6682 near 8am AEDT. The currency lifted 0.3 per cent. At the close in New York, US stocks were solidly higher with the Dow up 338 points or 1.1 per cent. The S&P 500 was up 1.3 per cent and the Nasdaq was up 1.3 per cent. Apple was the top boost to all three US benchmarks, rising 5 per cent to a more than three-month high after a report said it plans to increase iPhone production by 30 per cent in the first half of 2021. ....
