steve, we have good looking traffic most of these places. this is a look at 80 westbound it looks nice getting out to the mccarthur maze. as you drive to the bay bridge toll plaza it is light. traffic does look good coming out into san francisco. now we do have ktvu allie rasmus on the scene of a fatal crash on interstate 680 in pleasanton. reporter: it will have a big impact on traffic for drivers going from the east bay to south bay. all four lanes of interstate 680 southbound just before stone ridge drive shut down to traffic completely as chp investigates an accident that involves a pedestrian and a vehicle. fatal accident. you can see chp has all their flairs here. this was not a hit and run. it appears the driver involved in this has been talking to or being interviewed by chp investigators off to our right you can see what appears to be the car involved and tow truck just behind it. they might be moving the process along and starting the process of removing the ....

the spike on bridge traffic to levels we haven t seen in years. reporter: this kind of bay area traffic is something mary masoten is seeing more than ever. pretty much if i m not leaving my house by 6:00 in the morning, it s crazy out there. reporter: she drives her prius to work from richmond to brisbane every day and that trip includes crossing the bay bridge. when you have a big chunk of water out there you live with it. reporter: in december we learned she shared that part of her commute with an extra 70,000 cars and trucks an increase of more than 2%. for all seven state owned bay area bridges, traffic grew by more than 195,000 vehicles. that s particularly interesting because we ve had slow but steady declines in toll bridge traffic every year since 2003-2004. as for the sudden u turn, sam godwell says the economy could be the driving force. maybe more commuters, maybe more deliveries being made across the bridge. reporter: officials say traffic ....

you what justin herman plaza looks like right now. some speaking on the open microphone. we counted two tents that have gone up so far. police backed off, after setting up a perimeter here earlier. at around 8:45, things came to a head when there was a clash between protesters and officers. officers scuffled with several protesters. tackling some to the ground. tensions would raise from time to time during the past few hours. shortly after 6:00 tonight, protesters march from the federal reserve building to justin herman plaza. they tried to reoccupy the space police removed them from this morning. officers in riot gear moved in, surrounding the dozens of protesters who moved inside the perimeter. justin herman plaza is closed for the public. reporter: protesters did not heed orders. one of the protesters who was detained appears to suffer from convulsions. the police officer removed couldn t believe around there that tight. reporter: this woman was arrested duri ....

clash and the response from police, eric. reporter: frank if you take a look behind me you would really not know in was a problem out here tonight. police insist they brought in those barricades which of course are long gone because they re worried about dangerous conditions here at the camp, but that sparked a confrontation with people. and i can tell you it was not the only run in with officers tonight. this confrontation with protesters erupted at the sight of police setting up barricades around the sf occupy camp. some were convinced this was the raid they d been dreading. it s just a preemptive strike to their maneuvering to take out this camp. there was no intention to come in and raid the camp. reporter: police claim they were only trying to contain what they call an increasingly hazardous location which included a fire earlier in the day. our officers on the north side of the barricades were finally attacked. the officers exercised great restraint. r ....
