The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a mixture of choir, octet and quartet performances in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.<br/><br/>Directed by Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone in the School of Music, and Luke Vacca, adjunct professor of low brass, the choir will perform “Tower Music” by Vaclav Nehlybel, and a trombone octet will perform “Icarus” by Uruguayan musician Ricardo Arbiza, among other works.<br/><br/>Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3 for students and youth. The Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will return from performances at the Wichita Jazz Festival on Saturday, April 23, to present their final concert of the academic year at 7:30 that night in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The night’s performance will also be the “Last Call” for Dr. Deb Scott as director of the Swingin’ Axes. Scott has decided to step down from leading the Axes to focus more on teaching and performing as professor of trombone at SFA.
Among the works to be performed are “Trombone Institute of Technology” by Michael Davis, “Big Al Meets the Barnyard Gals” by Dan Gailey, “Satin Doll” by Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington, arranged by Sammy Nestico, and more.
