NH faces skilled worker shortage, exposing high schoolers to trades


HAMPTON – Kevin Hart, of Hart Plumbing and Heating, says there are plenty of opportunities for a young person looking to have a successful and rewarding career in the trades.  
The Seacoast-based company, owned by his brother, is always on the hunt for skilled workers and is consistently busy with non-emergency appointments scheduled four to six weeks out. 
“We have 14 guys and those 14 guys can work overtime whenever they want to work overtime,” Hart said. “That s how busy we are.”
With the average licensed electrician and master plumber aged 55 in New Hampshire, the state is facing a skilled worker shortage as a generation of tradesmen gets ready to retire. And homeowners, Martin said, are already starting to see the impact with higher prices for service and long wait times if it’s a non-emergency.  ....

Malvern Prep's offense erupts in second half against Germantown Academy – PA Prep Live

WHITEMARSH Malvern Prep knows it can score, but even the Friars were a little taken aback by their third quarter Tuesday.
A four-point game with 5:45 left in the quarter quickly turned into a blowout as the Friars caught fire and hit from anywhere and everywhere on Germantown Academy’s floor. Malvern Prep didn’t slow down either, taking some of the luster off a day of celebration for GA to win the season series.
The Friars dominant second half led to a 82-64 win over the Patriots Tuesday night.
“We just turned up our defensive intensity, the zone was really working for us and our shooters got a lot of open looks,” Friars forward Fran Oschell said. “For us, defense leads to offense and when we have that going on, I feel like our shooters tend to heat up.” ....
