FDA approves Pfizer COVID vaccine for children ages 12 to 15


We know that this is a big step for our country as vaccinating a younger population can bring us closer to a sense of normalcy and to ending this pandemic, Dr. Peter Marks, director of the FDA s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, said at a hearing on Capitol Hill Tuesday.
Biden: 20,000 pharmacy locations ready to vaccinate teens
Children ages 12 and up will receive two doses of the vaccine three weeks apart, according to the FDA. 
President Joe Biden said last week that 20,000 pharmacy locations are ready to begin vaccinating adolescents once the necessary approvals come through.
Shots also will be available soon through pediatricians offices, the president said, and if teens are on the move this summer, they can get their first shot in one place and a second shot elsewhere. ....

COVID-19 not fraying Daytona Muslims' Ramadan spiritual connection


DAYTONA BEACH  Since April 12, Mariam Kashif has been leaving the comfort of her bed every morning well before the sun begins climbing above the horizon.
At 4 a.m. she s up and starting to cook breakfast for her husband and three children. At 5 a.m. she s pausing to pray, taking time to kneel down on the floor and praise God.
Once the morning sunlight starts to seep into her west Daytona Beach home, she and her family will begin their daily 14-hour fast. They ll abstain from all food and beverages, including water, until the sun starts setting at 8 p.m.
It s the annual ritual Kashif and her family commit to every year during Ramadan, a month-long holy observance adhered to by nearly 2 billion Muslims worldwide. ....
