Farmers protests: Fazilka lawyer dies after drinking poison at Tikri border : The Tribune India

Jhajjar, December 27 A lawyer from Fazilka died after allegedly consuming some poisonous substance at the Tikri border, a site of the ongoing farmers’ protests, sources said on Sunday -at least the third such incident to be reported in the last two weeks. Sources said the victim, Amarjit Singh from Jalalabad, was immediately taken to Rohtak’s Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, where he died. A purported suicide note found in his pocket was addressed to  Modi, The Dictator . The note said he was offering himself as sacrifice in support of the protests. The typewritten letter is dated December 18 and reportedly bears the advocate’s signature.

PTI photo Tribune News Service Sonepat, December 22 A 65-year- old farmer tried to commit suicide by drinking poison at the ongoing farmers’ protest at the Singhu border on Monday, sources said -the third such instance in a week and the second in two days. The victim, identified as Niranjan Singh from Punjab’s Taran Taran, was first admitted to a general hospital but was later moved to Rohtak’s Post Graduate Institute Medical Science. Not much else is know about specifics of the case, however.

Punjab: Tributes paid to 41 farmers who died during protests

There are no exact lists of persons who died in Delhi morcha or on the way to Delhi. It is stated that more than 26 out of these died after November 26 in Delhi or on the way to or while coming back from Delhi. Among these victims were two women: Tej Kaur, 80, who died at Budhlada as she accidentally fell on railway track on October 8 and Gurmail Kaur, who died of heart attack during a protest at Bathinda. Farmers started going to Delhi from November 26 onwards from Punjab and the first death happened on November 27 when Dhanna Singh, 45, of a Mansa village died when a tractor in which he was going was hit by a truck from behind near Bhiwani. His family was given Rs 5 lakh in compensation by the Punjab government.
