DECATUR, Alabama The New Year s Day Polar Bear Plunge scheduled for Jan. 1, 2021, at 12 p.m. has been relocated to the south side of the Tennessee River.
The plunge will now take place at the pier near Ingalls Harbor. All proceeds from the event will benefit Meals on Wheels & More of Morgan County.
The Morgan County Rescue Squad will be in attendance to help out anyone brave enough to take the plunge. Participants ages 10 and under are required to wear a life jacket and older participants are encouraged to wear one. ....

Austin's New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge at Barton Springs Pool canceled


Austin s annual New Year s Day Polar Bear Plunge at Barton Springs Pool has been canceled for 2021 because of the city s current status of being in Stage 4 of Austin Public Health s risk-based guidelines for the coronavirus, officials announced Wednesday.
The decision to cancel the event, in which brave Austinites hop into the pool to kick off the new year, was made after careful consideration of the local characteristics of the virus and related community priorities, the city said in a written statement.
Austin Parks and Recreation Department officials worked with Austin Public Health and city officials to make the decision.
To commemorate the event, officials are asking people who participated in year s past to share photos and videos on social media using the hashtag #polarplungeatx. ....
