Needles discarded near children's play area in Wexford Town


Hypodermic needles have been discovered near a children’s play area in Wexford Town.
Drug paraphernalia was discarded in a housing estate in the town which has lead to outrage from local residents.

Local councillor Davy Hynes says untold damage could have been done if a child had found the stash.

Almost €50,000 dedicated to boosting Wexford's medieval heritage


The Heritage Council have dedicated over €30,000 to improving historical sites in County Wexford.
5 projects are set to benefit including the Edward Richards-Orpen Memorial Trust, Kilanerin-Ballyfad Community Development Association and Barntown Heritage Group
Meanwhile €14,000 in Heritage Council funding has been promised to two projects in County Wexford to help boost awareness of the county’s medieval history.
€12,000 will be dedicated to the conservation of the town wall at Mary Street in Wexford Town.
Meanwhile a further €2,000 will go towards a promotional video for New Ross, a key stop on the Norman Way.

Beer and wine prices to rise early next year
Minimum unit pricing for alcohol will be introduced in the early part of next year, after the cabinet approved the measure yesterday.
A can of beer will have to cost at least 1 euro and 70 cent, and a bottle of wine can’t be any cheaper than 7.40.
There are no plans to introduce the law in Northern Ireland until at least next summer.

Tempers flare over provision for homeless at Budget meeting


TEMPERS flared on the subject of homelessness at last week s Budget Meeting of Wexford County Council. The subject arose when the proposed budget showed an apparent decrease in funding of just over €22,000 on last year s allocation to administration of homeless services.
Sinn Féin councillor Tom Forde said that this was a source of great concern at a time when we re in the middle of a housing crisis .
The situation is not getting any better, he said. I don t see how we can justify a drop in this area.
Head of Finance Annette O Neill said that the budget would see no reduction of the current homeless services provided by the council and essentially it was being maintained at the same level. ....
