The fact that 2020 was terrible for the aviation industry and that it will need at least a couple of years more to start making a profit again is no joke. But this incident is: an Australian comedian tried to book a flight with Qantas, and a computer error landed him with jokes material maybe he couldn’t have hoped to come by otherwise.
Dave O’Neil posted about the strange and hilarious mishap on social media, showing how his request for extra legroom on a flight from Melbourne to Perth led to a total bill of $987.999.999. That’s nearly one billion Australian dollars, or the equivalent of $765 million in U.S. dollars. Whichever currency you’re most familiar with, it’s a lot of dough for a domestic flight, even in this economy.

Aussie funnyman Dave O’Neil got a bit of a shock while trying to book extra legroom on a recent Qantas flight.
O’Neil posted a screenshot of his order summary on the Qantas app to Twitter showing a total of $987,999,999.00 for return flights from Melbourne to Perth.

The airline replied to the Tweet remarking that the total did look “slightly” over the normal price and asking O’Neil to direct message so it could take a look.

Australian Comedian Dave O Neil wanted to upgrade his seat on a flight from Melbourne to Perth to one with a little extra legroom and wound up being charged $987,999,999!
(That s about $770 million USD)
Obviously (hopefully) Dave assumed this was just a glitch in the app but still, his handling of the situation was far more polite than anything I would have managed. He tweeted the company that he was very happy to pay for the extra legroom but the amount seemed a bit expensive.
