An Australian comedian on Saturday said he was charged nearly $800 million after he tried to buy extra legroom for a recent flight.
Dave O Neil took to social media to share a payment request of $987,999,999.00 in Australian dollars for booking a seat with extra legroom on a Qantas flight from Melbourne to Perth. The hefty sum translates to roughly USD$770 million. Hey, @Qantas all I wanted was extra legroom on my flight to Perth, very happy to pay for it but this seems a bit expensive, he wrote in a viral tweet, along with a screenshot of the booking.
A representative from Qantas was quick to reply to O Neil, saying they would investigate. While we know that customers really value extra leg room, the price displayed was definitely a bit of a stretch, a Qantas spokesperson told 9News in a statement. We can confirm the passenger was charged the correct amount of $70 per sector for the extra legroom and we re investigating what caused the incorrect amount to be displayed.
While the airline was quick off the mark to O Neil, so were other Twitter users, with many making light of the price discrepancy and regular plane fare. Slightly â almost normal though really, one social media user wrote, adding the hashtag gouge .
