Sentencing in 'hotpot Datuk' case delayed due to new developments


PETALING JAYA: The sentencing in the case of two company directors, including a Datuk who was filmed, in a viral video, assaulting a couple at a hotpot restaurant has been pushed to May due to a new development in the case.
The Magistrate’s Court heard that the restaurant owner had retracted a police report against Datuk Tan Wai Khan, 42, who had previously claimed trial to a charge of mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
Tan s lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh, who represented Tan and co-accused Ang Mow Loong, 40, informed the court that the defence received information that the restaurant owner made the retraction for the particular offence. ....

PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old businessman who was arrested together with his friend for allegedly assaulting two people at a restaurant here last week is expected to be charged in court tomorrow.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the businessman, Datuk Tan Wai Khan, will be charged with committing public nuisance, committing mischief and three counts of causing hurt under Section 427, Section 290 and Section 323 of the Penal Code respectively.
He said the businessman’s 39-year-old friend will be charged for causing public nuisance and assault. ....

The Datuk who went viral recently and was arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a man and a woman at a restaurant in Tropicana last week, has apologised for his rowdy behaviour.
In a video shared on social media yesterday, Datuk Tan Wai Khan also apologised on behalf of his friend whom he referred to as “Ang Lee”, who was also involved in the attack.
The incident happened in TST Hotspot restaurant on Jan 12, in Tropicana Avenue hours before the Movement Control was in effect.
Besides admitting fault, he also hoped in the over 2 minute video that the public would not involve his family and friends into the issue as Tan said he was the one responsible for the incident. ....

PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old businessman, who was arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a man and a woman at a restaurant in Tropicana last week, has apologised for his actions.
In an almost two-and-a-half minute video shared on social media yesterday, Datuk Tan Wai Khan also apologised on behalf of his friend whom he refered to as “Ang Lee”, who was also involved in the attack at the TST Hotspot restaurant on Jan 12.
“I admit that my friend and I had committed an inappropriate and extreme act.
“My friend and I were irrational and angry at the time as we felt slighted being chided by a younger person. ....
