Person called for help, hopefully well have that information on abc7 news at 11 00. Reporting live at pointos in San Francisco. A fire on the tracks at the walnut creek bart station brought service to a halt. The fire is out but Service Remains slow. Lisa amin gulezian is live from the station. Reporter a lot of progress has been made in the past hour or so. Take a look. You can see crews are working right where the fire started on the third rail on platform 2, the westbound side. Now, everything, however, is being singletracked from platform one. This whole thing start after 3 00. Thats when the fire was first spotted. Smoke could be seen for miles. The fire ran about 50 feet and took firefighters about 30 minutes to put it out. They think a faulty power pickup paddle is to blame. Those paddles move and send power into the train. Sutro baths. Rescue teams quickly mobilized using jet skis and boats. The person who called for help said a man fell into the water off 50 to 100foot cliff. A coast guard rescue boat was able to retrieve the man but this rescue did not have a happy ending. The units retrieved the victim from the water ask and he was transported by the coast guard to marin, the base for the coast guard. Unfortunately the adult male has deceased. Reporter at that time battalion chief says this is unfortunately not the first water rescue they have had to respond to out here recently. He warns the cliff and coastal winds can be tricky and visitors should stick to the trail.
