From Staff Reports LOCK HAVEN While trustees of Lock Haven University do not have any vote in the proposed integration of LHU, Mansfield and Bloomsburg universities, The Express recently asked each trustee a set of questions to gauge their thoughts on the ongoing process. The Board of Governors meets this Wednesday in Harrisburg to receive the integration plans. Receipt of the consolidation proposals which culminate months of meetings by multiple task forces established by PASSHE triggers a 60-day public committee period before the board is scheduled to act on integration in July. LHU trustees include: Daniel Elby, chairman; Mary Coploff, vice chair; Mike Hanna Jr., secretary; Margery Brown Dosey; Krystjan Callahan; John Gower; James Gregory; Albert Jones; Angela Smith; Mark Stern and Mia Swales. ....
From Staff Reports LOCK HAVEN While trustees of Lock Haven University do not have any vote in the proposed integration of LHU, Mansfield and Bloomsburg universities, The Express nonethless recently asked each trustee a set of questions to gauge their thoughts on the ongoing process. Faced with declining enrollments, stagnant state funds vs. increasing payroll and operating costs, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education set out two years ago to right-size those schools with enrollment under 10,000 by mandating, among other things, a balanced budget. The result has been and continues to be multiple furloughs of faculty and staff across most of the system. ....
Angelique Bacon-Woodard LOCK HAVEN Lock Haven University welcomed seven African-American alumni for its virtual Black History Month Alumni Panel. Six alumni panelists shared career advice and highlights from their time at The Haven, also while discussing how their LHU experiences helped propel their professional successes. Ed Wright is a 1971 graduate of Lock Haven State College and a former president of the Lock Haven University Alumni Association. Wright helped organize the event along with Kenny Hall, LHU’s director of diversity, equity and inclusion. “I want to thank all of the panelists for joining us and sharing their experiences,” Hall said. “I especially want to thank Ed Wright for being so instrumental in the organization of this event. We wouldn’t have been able to put together such a great event without him.” ....
Mia Swales LOCK HAVEN The Lock Haven University Council of Trustees recently welcomed Mia Swales, graduate student in the clinical mental health counseling program, as its new student member. Swales was approved by the Board of Governors at their regular meeting on Thursday, Feb. 4. Swales graduated from LHU in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a minor in sociology. She also served as a resident assistant in Woolridge Hall. “Mia is a true advocate of the student body and will be fully engaged with the important issues the university will be experiencing,” said Dr. Robert Pignatello, former LHU president. “She has already proudly represented the university as an undergraduate student, and we look forward to her growth through this experience.” ....
