Concerns have been raised over a new bill being brought to Parliament which looks to hand more power to police. As part of efforts to overhaul the justice system, the Government is proposing a raft of measures in its Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, which received its second reading in the House of Commons yesterday. It includes plans to give police more powers to tackle non-violent protests which cause significant disruption to the public or on access to Parliament. Labour leader Keir Starmer said he hoped the case of Sarah Everard would mark a turning point and called for the bill to be paused. ....
