Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District on Monday, claiming that his candidacy might prevent a “unified effort” to defeat Boebert in the 2022 congressional elections. At the time Smith filed his statement of organization with the Federal Elections Commission on Jan. 30, he was the sole candidate in the Democratic primary for the district. Since then, several “high quality candidates” with ties to Colorado’s political establishment have entered the race, he wrote in a statement that he posted on his Twitter account. ....
A mother and certified nurses assistant who moved to Pueblo in the fall has filed to run in Colorado s 3rd Congressional District Democratic primary, joining a crowded field of other individuals looking to unseat Rep. Lauren Boebert. Susan Martinez has four children, three of whom still live with her, and is married to Jose, who came to Pueblo as a teenager. Martinez moved to Colorado in 2013, having previously lived in Florida. One of Martinez s children is severely disabled and requires a high level of care, which has influenced her thoughts on policy and legislative matters. Until recently, the family lived in Colorado Springs, but in September they bought their forever home in Pueblo. ....
Although Colorado Rep. Donald Valdez withdrew before the Democratic Primary for Colorado s 3rd Congressional District House Representative race in 2020, he has decided to join the 2022 race for his home district. Valdez is the Colorado House representative for District 62, having won the seat this past November. His term lasts through Jan. 10, 2023, and he first assumed the office on Jan. 11, 2017. Valdez has launched his campaign with a message based around his identity as a fifth-generation Colorado farmer, and noted in his first campaign video that he aims to focus on water, rural health care, education and economic security. Lauren Boebert has proven to be a threat to our democracy and her peddling of dangerous conspiracy theories isn’t doing anything good for us here, he said. ....
