Southwest monsoon arrived in Mumbai with a 14-day delay, while Delhi experienced it 2 days earlier. The simultaneous onset is due to the activation of the western arm of monsoon, which is highly unusual. Mumbai received 176 mm rainfall, while Delhi received 48 mm rainfall. The weather office has issued a yellow alert for several states and predicted heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning. The progression of monsoon is also predicted to cause heavy rainfall in Gujarat and Madhya Maharashtra.
