He has been under police custody since January 27, 2021 Jakarta (ANTARA) - A day after he was named a suspect for allegedly posting racist remarks against a noted Papuan human rights defender on social media, People s Conscience Party (Hanura) politician Ambroncius Nababan was detained by police on Wednesday.

He has been under police custody since January 27, 2021, director of the National Police s Cybercrime Investigation Division, Brig.Gen. Slamet Uliandi, told journalists here on Wednesday.

The suspect has been detained to prevent him from escaping and tampering with evidence of his criminal offence, he said. ....

Police have arrested six members of an alleged extortion ring, including its leader, in parts of Dhaka for making threatening phone calls and demanding money from people.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Cyber Crime Investigation Division nabbed the suspects during raids in Jatrabari, Motijheel, Turag and Paltan area on Thursday.
The arrestees were identified as Belal Khan, Rakib Khan Titul, A Hannan, Delowar Hossain, ‘Sohag’ and Md Khorshed Alam.
The law enforcers recovered mobile phones and SIM cards which were used to extort people along with some documents during the raids, Deputy Police Commissioner Walid Hossain said at a media briefing on Saturday. ....

Pornography spreads amid futile govt ban
The government initiative to block pornography websites has proved a futile exercise due to lack of technological knowhow and concerted efforts from the state agencies.
On January 1, 2017, the government launched an anti-porn campaign to create safe and secure internet space for all. In the process, it has blocked 22,000 porn sites in the last three years.
But statistics show only blocking websites has had little effect on Bangladeshi internet users as they are increasingly visiting pornographic websites. Besides, such videos can be easily downloaded and circulated.
The country has a very rigid law titled Pornography Control Act-2012, which says preservation, distribution, selling, displaying, advertising of pornographic contents is a punishable offence. ....
