Bengaluru violence: SC notice on plea against bail to ex-Mayor

New Delhi, Feb 19 : The Supreme Court on Friday sought response from Karnataka government and others on a plea against the bail granted to former Bengaluru Mayor Sampath Raj and former corporator Abdul Raqueeb Zakir in a case connected to the east Bengaluru violence on August 12, 2020, which claimed lives of four people.
The Karnataka High Court had granted bail to both Raj and Zakir this month.
A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy sought a response from Raj and Zakir within three weeks as the top court issued notice on a plea filed by Congress’ Pulakeshinagar MLA R. Akhanda Srinivasmurthy through advocate Amit Pai.

At one point, the
vacant space below Benniganahalli Flyover was known for being a dumping yard for garbage. When all the pleas of Kasturinagar residents fell on deaf ears, they took matter into their own hands and cleaned up the space in 2017 and spent lakhs of rupees to remove heaps of garbage, level the ground and paint the flyover pillars.
But now, all their efforts seem to have been trashed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The Palike’s health department has put up a temporary structure below the flyover for a dry waste collection centre to take care of trash collected from a different ward (Vijinapura- ward number 51).
