Scottish tourist survey warning over struggling attractions


Perhaps unsurprisingly, attractions with large outdoor areas such as country parks outperformed museums, art galleries and castles.
Edinburgh Zoo was Scotland’s busiest paid-for site last year, attracting 292,631 visitors, a drop of 46.4% on the previous 12 months. 
Culloden Visitor Centre attracted 182,496 visitors as it recorded battlefield-only visits for the first time while the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh was the most popular free site with 452,479 visits.
The stark figures prompted a call from tourism leaders for staycationers to support Scotland’s attractions, which have been held up by the Government for excellence in Covid safety.

Historic sites expect big boom when they re-open to public this month


THE public will reconnect in high numbers when our historic sites re-open in earnest at the end of this month. From April 30, 27 historic sites will be re-opening, including Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle.
Historic Environment Scotland (Hes) will be adapting its visitor experience in light of Covid restrictions but it promises to be just as stimulating as before.
Hes said: “We are pleased to be re-opening sites once more, in line with Scottish Government guidelines, with many ticketed sites re-opening once again on April 30, as well as opening up further sites across the country on a phased basis over the coming months. ....
