Soybeans are a major commodity for South Dakota in terms of both acres planted and sales value. This month SDSU Extension will spend a full week on soybean production during the Crop Hour webinar series. âSoybean week will cover all of areas of pest management, from weeds to disease and insect control,â says Adam J. Varenhorst, Assistant Professor and Extension Field Crop Entomologist. âIn addition, the week will cover soil fertility management and look at best management practices when selecting a variety and planting date. The week will wrap up with a look at the soybean market and 2021 market outlook.â ....

SDSU Extension Agronomy Field Specialist Sara Bauder says its important growers are taking every step to protect and preserve grain quality on farm. “Maintaining grain quality is of great value to a grower, and spending adequate time cleaning and preparing bins, having the proper size aeration system and checking grain regularly are all part of maintaining high quality stored grain,” says Bauder. SDSU Extension will kick off its virtual Crop Hour webinar series Jan. 5 with the first week’s presentations dedicated to managing stored grain. Attendees will have the opportunity to tune in each day from 10 to 11 a.m. CST to hear from local and regional experts concerning pertinent issues surrounding stored grains that are crucial to farm safety and profitability. ....

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Nearly one out of every three dollars generated by South Dakota agriculture starts in a corn field. The state’s most-planted crop, corn is also a strong partner in livestock and ethanol production. In January, SDSU Extension’s Crop Hour webinar series will dedicate a full week to cover everything in corn, from the latest research to best management practices for improved performance and profitability. “I think the real opportunity that people have this year is they can attend the programs that fit their situation,” says Paul Johnson, SDSU Extension Weed Science Coordinator. “Obviously on corn week, all of the topics are related to growing corn, where SDSU will be talking about all the latest research in the area of corn, whether it’s dealing with weeds, insects, diseases or fertility, and we’ll give farmers a lot more targeted opportunity to see specific information relating to corn.” ....
