SDSU Extension hosting Drought Hour webinar series Monday (April 12)

As South Dakota farmers and ranchers gear up for spring planting and turning livestock out to pasture, warmer than average temperatures and limited chances of precipitation are continuing to make a dry situation worse. According to the latest
U.S. Drought Monitor, 78.7% of South Dakota is in some level of drought, including 8% that is newly classified as Extreme Drought (D3) in the north central region. The rest of the state is Abnormally Dry (D0).
“Drought is expected to persist in these areas through April, according to the latest
monthly drought outlook issued on March 31 by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center,” says Laura Edwards, SDSU Extension State Climatologist. “Northeast South Dakota has some likelihood to improve their drought condition with a more active storm track forecast to begin in mid-April. SDSU Extension to host final pesticide education opportunity Thursday

As opportunities to obtain 2021 Private Applicator Certification in South Dakota wind down, SDSU Extension is offering a final online pesticide education course Thursday (April 8) from 6–9pm CST.
“We were thrilled to be able to provide regulatory and pesticide education during our Crop Hour Private Applicator Certification webinar to more than 350 participants across the state,” says Amanda Bachmann, SDSU Extension Pesticide Education and Urban Entomology Field Specialist. “For those private applicators who have not recertified yet or are not interested in taking a self-paced course, this three-hour evening session will be the last opportunity for live private applicator training this season.” ....

This week's SDSU Extension Crop Hour looks at understanding research data needed for decision making

Big data and agriculture often go hand in hand in today’s modern farming era, but wading through statistical terminology and big data sets to interpret results can be overwhelming, says SDSU Extension Plant Pathology Field Specialist Connie Strunk.
To provide some insight, Strunk and her colleagues will focus the March 9-12 Crop Hour series to “Understanding SDSU Extension Agronomy Research.”
The virtual programs run from 10-11am CST each day and will cover the following topics:
