Chepngetich Advances to NCAA Championship After Top-Five Finish at Regionals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After earning a fifth place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, freshman Gladys Chepngetich officially secured her place in the NCAA Championships as she is the first female to be named an individual automatic qualifier for Clemson since 2018.  In the Women’s 6k, the Tigers finished 13th overall and in the Men’s 10k, the Tigers finished 15th overall.In the 10k, Victor Ndiwa was the first to cross the line for Clemson as he secured a top-25 finish. Ndiwa completed the event in 29 minutes and 39 seconds and had an average pace of four minutes and 46 seconds. In the 6k, Chepngetich recorded a fifth-place finish as she was the first female to cross the line for the Tigers. Women Finish Fifth, Men Eighth, In Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – In the fourth meet of the 2023 season, the Clemson Men’s and Women’s cross country teams impressed as both groups finished within the top 10 of their individual events at the Crimson Classic. In the women’s 6k, the Tigers finished fifth overall and on the men’s side, the Tigers placed eighth overall in the 8k.   “The men really showed up today with a lot of season and personal bests. They look great heading into championship season. We had a few mishaps on the women’s side, but we also had a bunch of solid performances,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said.  For the women, freshman Gladys Chepngetich was the first Tiger to cross the line as she earned a third-place finish. Chepngetich completed the 6k in 19 minutes and 18 seconds which marked a new personal record for the freshman in the event. Women Finish Second, Men Third, in Upstate Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2023 slate at the Upstate Eye Opener in Spartanburg on Friday afternoon with the women taking second 5k and the men finishing third 8k. Freshman Gladys Chepngetich placed second overall for the women while sophomore, Victor Ndiwa placed second overall on the men’s side. “I feel like this was by far our best season opener for both men’s and women’s teams. I’m looking forward to what the season has in store,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said. On the women’s side, the Tigers finished with a final score of 58, and final total of 1:29:11 to help them secure second place in the 5k. Chepngetich started her Clemson career with a finishing time of 17:11.20. Caelin Sloan, another new face on the Tigers roster, finished ninth overall with a final time of 17:31.90, and Madelyn Dinneen rounded out the Tigers in the top 20 with a time of 17:59.00 to finish 16th in the 5k.For the men, they finish

Cross Country Announces 2023 Schedule

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers Cross Country team has announced its 2023 schedule, as they prepare to run in their first meet on Friday in Spartanburg. The schedule features four competitions prior to the ACC Championships hosted by Florida State.  FULL SCHEDULE:  Sept. 1: Eye Opener - Spartanburg, S.C. Sept. 16: Furman Invitational 6K - Greenville, S.C.  Sept. 29: Liv @ Lou - Louisville, Ky.  Oct. 12: Crimson Classic - Tuscaloosa, Ala.  Oct. 25: ACC Championship - Tallahassee, Flal.  Nov. 10: Regional Championships - Spartanburg, S.C.  Nov. 24: NCAA Championships - Charlottesville, Va.    Head Coach Vicky Pounds enters her fifth season at the helm for the Tigers and will look to help lead both groups towards success this upcoming season.  Returning on the women’s side are sophomores, Maddie Dineen, who finished first in her opening meet of her freshman campaign in 2022, and Madison Roush, who tabbed two top 20 finishes last season. Men's Sprint Medley Relay Victory Highlights Rainy Friday at Penn Relays – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site

PHILADELPHIA  The Clemson track and field program had two athletes make their way into the school record book on Thursday at Penn Relays. Brynne Sumner and Maddie Dinneen both set impressive personal bests on their way onto top-10 lists. While only a few Tigers competed on the opening day of the relays, most of the team will make their meet debut on Friday. Action begins at 11:55 a.m. with the women's distance medley relay, and will run through 6:25 p.m. concluding with the men's sprint medley relay. THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS Brynne Sumner set a massive PR in the 1500 meter run, finishing the race in 4:20.96. That time is sixth-best in Clemson history and puts Sumner on her second top-10 list of the season. She holds the No. 7 spot in the 800 meter run.
