Chamber, Duke Energy Celebrate County Teachers with Inaugural Emerald Educators Awards

Merle W. Smith - The Paper of Montgomery County

Friday, February 26, 2021 4:00 AM Much-loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Merle W. Smith, passed away on Feb. 22, 2021. He lived a wonderful and full life, sharing many happy times with family and friends. Mr. Smith was one of the “lucky ones”. Always cheerful, always there to give good advice, always enjoyed life to the fullest. Born in Lizton, Ind. on April 2, 1930, and was the youngest of four children born to Norman and Mary (Blessing) Smith. Mr. Smith married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth “Libby” Luster on Oct. 7, 1950, and shared a wonderful life together until her death in 2004. After Mr. Smith’s military service in the Army, he returned to Crawfordsville, where he and Libby raised their two children. He worked for MidStates Steel & Wire for a short time, and later joined the Ben Hur Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1992. He and Libby spent many years wintering in Florida, was an active member at the Crawfords

Crawfordsville, IN, USA / WCDQ Country 106.3 FM | Country Music Dec 17, 2020 2:54 PM The Montgomery County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Sidney Campbell has been named the 2021 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar for Montgomery County. Sidney will receive four years of full tuition to any accredited public or private nonprofit college or university in Indiana. In addition, a $900 stipend for required books and equipment will be made available to her each year.
