Subaru restarts its Lafayette, Indiana plant, where they manufacture the 2022 Outback today after a two-week shutdown. This time it wasn t because of the global microchip shortage but a planned summer closure. Subaru of Indiana Automotive closed for two weeks For our usual two-week summer shutdown, Craig Koven, Communications and External Relations Manager for Subaru of Indiana Automotive, told Torque News.
Will the shutdown affect Outback supplies this summer? While 2021 Subaru Forester and 2021 Crosstrek inventory are low, Subaru of America should have a good supply of the 2022 Outback midsize SUV this summer. The 2022 Outback models have already begun to arrive at U.S. retailers. ....

Subaru Loses Big In Chip Shortage - New Outback Takes The Biggest Hit


Subaru retailers could sell more 2021 Outback midsize SUVs if they could get them. Automotive News reports, AutoForecast Solutions estimates Subaru of America is the number five automaker in the U.S. in the number of vehicles reduced from North American production schedules due to the global microchip shortage. They report Subaru lost 45,272 cars due to its U.S. plant shutdown.
The popular 2021 Subaru Outback, manufactured at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant, is the Camden, N.J. automaker s biggest loser, with 23,882 models lost to production shutdowns. The Outback is the number eleven most affected vehicle in America behind the Ford F-150, Jeep Cherokee, Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Explorer, Jeep Compass, Ford Edge, Ford Escape, Ford Transit, and Stellantis Voyager. ....

Detroit  Autoworkers at the Detroit Three plants and others will have to continue wearing masks while working despite recent changes in mask-wearing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 
The COVID-19 Joint Task Force, comprised of members from the United Auto Workers, Ford Motor Co. General Motors Co. and Stellantis NV, decided to continue mandating masks until the Occupational Safety and Health Administration issues guidelines, according to a press release sent Wednesday morning by the UAW. 
Additionally, Ford, General Motors and Stellantis will follow all state, county and city regulations where they have operations. ....

Subaru Restarts U.S. Plant - What It Means For The All-New Outback Wilderness


Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) is scheduled to resume production today, May 3, after the automaker suspended production from April 19 to April 26 (a total of 10 days). The plant manufactures the Subaru Outback, Ascent, Impreza, and Legacy models. Subaru is scheduled to begin producing the 2022 Outback models this spring, and the all-new 2022 Outback Wilderness trim.
Earlier this year, production at the U.S. plant was suspended for six working days between March 25 and April 1. Both shutdowns were in response to the limited supply of semiconductor chips needed for its vehicles.
Craig Koven, Subaru of Indiana Automotive Communications and External Relations Manager at the U.S. plant, told Torque News, We expect approximately 15,000 vehicles will be affected. The company didn t say how many workers are affected. ....
