Well, if the fed were to raise rates too soon, senator, we would risk undermining a recovery that is really just taking hold. And is really succeeding, i think, in improving the labor market. As as i said, i dont think were back to attaining yet conditions id associate with maximum employment or normal labor market conditions. Things have improved notably. But were not there yet. And so we want to see a healthy recovery continue. In addition, as you mentioned, inflation is running well below our 2 objective and while we think a significant reason for that is because of transitory factors, most importantly the decline weve seen in energy prices, we are committed to our 2 objective. Just as we dont want to overshoot 2 on the high side, we dont want to chronically undershoot 2 on the low side either. So before raising rates, we will want to feel confident that the recovery will continue and that inflation is moving up over time. There are also, of course, risks of waiting too long to remo ....
2016 is going to be a different election though. The world has changed. We dont need just someone with a strong economic plan. Thanks to the obamaclinton foreignpolicy team, we have gone from a policy of peace t hrough strength from a policy of leaving behind and it has been disastrous for the American People and the world. In fact, the president s popularity is so bad around the world today that i heard this report from a source that the kenyan government is actually developing proof that barack obama was actually born in america. [laughter] [applause] the fact of the matter is we are in a very serious time. I was in israel six months ago and i spoke with Prime Minister netanyahus Senior Adviser and he pulled me aside and he said in 2016 America Needs to elect a wa ....
please feel free to sit down. i m sorry. everyone is standing. maybe it was one of the effects of the sequester. you had to get rid of chairs. [laughter] i chose argonne national lab because few areas hold more promise for creating good jobs and growing our economy than how we use american energy. after years of talking about it, we are poised to take control of our energy future. we produce more oil that we have in 15 years. we import less oil than we had in 20 years. we have doubled the amount of renewable energy that we generate from wind and solar. tens of thousands of good jobs to show for it. we are producing more natural gas than we have before that hundreds of thousands of good jobs to show for it. we have supported the first new nuclear power plant in america since the 1970s. we are sending less carbon pollution in the environment and e have in nearly 20 years. we are making progress across the board. it is possible in part because of labs like this and outstan ....
policies have done. take the trial lawyers and put them in plastic bags and drop them in the river. [ applause ] there are a series of things that if you do, we know that the economy will grow because id s happened before and when we watch us move in the wrong direction, the economy contracts. simple answer is cut spending, cut tax, have less regulation. okay. how do we get there? one, we need to maintain we need to have a conservative house of representatives majority. a 60-seat majority of conservatives in the senate. [ applause ] it s not good enough to have 51 or 52 or 53 because of the filibuster. and we need a conservative republican in the white house to sign the bills that the house and senate send. [ applause ] the news is good. in the house we start with a 25-seat majority for republicans. it s there s a conservative majority as well as a republican majority in the house at present. we need to build on that, thanks to redirecting because we picked up so ma ....
as part of the health care reform law that i signed last year, all insurance plans are required to cover preventive care at no cost. that means free checkups, free mammograms, immunizations, and other basic services. we fought for this because it saves lives and it saves money. for families, businesses, government, everybody. that is because it is a lot cheaper to provide an illness and to treat one. we also accepted a recommendation from the experts at the institute of medicine when it comes to women, preventive care should include coverage of contraceptive services such as birth control. in addition to family planning, doctors often prescribe contraception as a way of reducing risk of ovarian and other cancers and treat a variety of ailments. we know the overall cost of health care is lower when women have access to contraceptive services. nearly 99% of all women have replied that on contraception at some point in their lives. 99%. yet more than half of all women betw ....
