the economy. it will come as no surprise to you, chair yellen, that improving economic growth is a key priority for congress this year. 2016 was the 11th consecutive year that the u.s. economy failed to grow by more than 3%. one way to improve our economic growth is it to study and address areas where regulations can be improved. since the financial crisis regulators have imposed thousands of new pages of regulations. we all need to better understand the combined impact of these rules on lending, liquidity, cost for small financial institutions, and broader economic growth. it is time to reassess what is working and what is not. i m encouraged by president trump s executive order on core principles for regulating the financial system. directing the treasury secretary in consultation with the heads of the other member agencies of asoc including you to report on how well existing laws and regulations promote or inhibit economic growth will be a helpful step as we move forward.

and welcome. we begin tonight with records on wall street. lots of them. and the woman who made them happen. blue chip dow index, the s&p 500, the small cap russell 2000 make new highs today. the nasdaq has its third highest close ever and it was all because of one person. the federal reserve chair janet yellin. in testimony today on capitol hill yellin didn t say too much about future rate hikes but didn t say too little. the markets interpreted as what she did say just enough to keep the door open for a later than mid year interest rate ride. she made it clear the central bank will consider rate hikes on a meeting by meeting basis but she made no promises. with that the dow jones industrial average closed in record territory with a gain of 92 points and 18,209. nasdaq rose 7 points tenth straight gain there. its strongest win streak since july 2009 and s&p 500 up nearly 6. yellin s comments sent the yield on the ten-year bond back below 2%. steve liesman with more on today
