High intake of zinc supplements during the pandemic may play a vital role in the onset of black fungus during COVID-19, but more research is needed on this.
Zinc is thought to accumulate iron in the body which can create a breeding ground for mucormycosis, a serious but rare fungal infection caused by a group of molds called mucormycetes.
Mucor growth in a human body depends on multiple host factors. Last year, doctors had seen mucor patients, but the number was less as number of Covid patients was less. ....

Patients who have recovered from Covid-19 and have received monoclonal antibodies or plasma therapy as part of their treatment can wait for three months before taking the vaccination, Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
It has also stated that those who have contracted Covid-19 after the first dose of vaccination should wait for three months before getting the second dose and patients who were admitted in ICU for non-Covid serious illnesses can get the jab administered after four to eight weeks.
Recommendations
These recommendations were based on inputs given by the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC) which took into consideration the evolving pandemic sitaution, emerging scientific evidence and experience, said the Ministry statement. ....

Adilabad: Black fungus (mucormycosis) infections have been found in some of the people recovered from Covid-19 in Adilabad district, creating fear among those cured from the pandemic in recent times.
