KALAMAZOO, MI An attorney for the former director of nursing at Lakeside Academy has filed a motion to dismiss charges against his client in the death of 16-year-old student Cornelius Fredricks.
Heather McLogan, 49, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse in Fredricks’ death, which stemmed from an April 29, 2020, incident at the now-closed residential youth treatment facility.
Fredricks died two days later in a Kalamazoo hospital as a result of “sequelae of restraint asphyxia,” meaning the teen was receiving a lack of oxygen and blood flow. After being rendered unconscious during the April 29 incident at the academy, in which he was restrained for 12 minutes af
