Here’s everything you can expect to see touch down on Australian shores in 2021, and when!
The year 2020 was one that many would like to forget, and the automotive industry is no exception.
Lockdowns and economic slowdowns brought on by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic translated exactly as you’d expect for Australia’s new-car sales, with a staggering 48.5 per cent sales decline in April, contributing to an overall market down 13.7 per cent by the end of the year.
Despite the sales slowdowns and production delays caused by COVID-19, 2020 was still a relatively strong year in terms of new model launches, with highlights from the year ranging from the rapid Ford Fiesta ST and Mercedes-AMG A45 S hot hatches in the first half of the year, to the new-generation Isuzu D-Max and Kia Sorento toward the year’s end.
The MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition has made its way to Australia, albeit in limited numbers, namely 29 units for the Cooper and 30 for the Cooper S.
Pricing starts at AU$52,000 (equaling to US$40,350) for the 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, which puts out 100 kW (136 PS / 134 HP) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. This version does the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 9.7 seconds, returns 6.3 l/100 km (37.3 mpg US) and emits 143 g/km of CO2.
For the Cooper S, customers will have to pay a minimum of AU$58,500 (US$45,394). This version is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four making 141 kW (192 PS / 189 HP) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft). The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint is dealt with in 7.5 seconds, while average consumption stands at 6.7 l/100 km (35.1 mpg US) and CO2 emissions at 151 g/km. Both engines are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Mini Australia has confirmed the first special for the facelifted version of the second-generation Countryman small SUV, with the Boardwalk Edition due next month.
The Boardwalk Edition stands out from the Countryman crowd with its Deep Laguna metallic paintwork, Piano Black exterior trim, black 18-inch Pin alloy wheels and fold-out picnic bench.
And if you’re still having trouble telling the difference, the Boardwalk Edition goes even further with characteristic garnishes on the ‘side scuttles’ and scuff plates as well as branding between the C- and D-pillars.
Inside, the Boardwalk Edition once again features branding, this time on the passenger side of the Piano Black dashboard insert, as well as a panoramic sunroof, a 410W Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers, and front sports seats with heating.
