The number of active COVID-19 cases dropped under 200 within the Eastern Ontario Health Unit region on Tuesday afternoon, as 14 new cases were confirmed.
Two of the new cases are in Cornwall, two in North Glengarry, two in North Stormont, two in South Stormont, one in North Dundas, two in Russell, and three in Clarence-Rockland. The running total of COVID-19 cases is now at 4,581.

Some 50 cases were set as resolved since Monday’s update, with the number of active cases in the region now at 172. The region’s standby list for a COVID-19 vaccination is now open to individuals 18 and older.
In a message to media outlets Thursday, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit said widening the eligibility will help avoid vaccine wastage by ensuring as many people as needed are available to receive remaining doses at the end of a clinic.

Active COVID-19 cases continued to decline on Friday within the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, as 24 new cases were reported.
At the time of publication, there was a glitch in the counts on the EOHU’s summary page highlighting the day-to-day changes; it listed an increase of only 13 cases, however by comparing the municipal breakdown numbers from Thursday to Friday, the increase was 24.

Of the information posted by the health unit Friday, four of the new cases are in Cornwall, two in North Glengarry, two in South Stormont, two in North Stormont, five in Russell, one in Hawkesbury, and eight in Clarence-Rockland. The running total of cases within the region now sits at 4,528.

Over 63,000 vaccines have been administered in the local catchment area, and the region’s medical officer of health expects a dramatic rise in that number as May moves along.
Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, in his Monday afternoon media conference, talked about expected big increases in vaccine supply in May, and that, by early June, a “first dose will (be available) to everyone, most likely,” he said.

“I think we are rolling out the vaccine quite nicely.”
That number is an increase of 2,539 doses since the last update on Friday. Based on a target of immunizing 180,000 people at two doses per person, Monday’s reported count puts the EOHU at 17.6 per cent of its target. This overall number includes some who’ve already received both doses, so the count on the number of people who’ve received at least one dose is likely closer to 30 per cent.
