Corbin Local Wildlife Park in Mason Hall, Tobago, is well known for its conservation work. Since the park’s development in 2011, it has served as a refuge to over ten species of animals, including endangered species.
But nestled in its estimated 20 acres of forestland is a lesser-known gem: a home which is 100 per cent powered by solar energy and off the grid. ....

Tobago wildlife park boosts food security with 'fruiting forest'

Since the Corbin Local Wildlife Park started planting its fruiting forest last July, a few crops including the banana trees have started to bear. - Corbin Local Wildlife Park
Before covid19, vendors in Tobago would often donate fruits and vegetables to help feed the animals at the Corbin Local Wildlife Park in Mason Hall.
Today, while the vendors still give generously, the amount of produce they donate has decreased because of how covid19 has affected their businesses.
So, in an effort to make up for the shortfall in food donations and increase the park’s food security, the park started planting a “fruiting forest” last July. ....

When you hear about the illegal wildlife trade, it is not uncommon that the first thing you think about is animals being transported illegally from one country to another.
But for the organisers of the recently launched Nurture Nature campaign, they want people to look at the issue beyond the surface and understand it is much more complex.
For this to happen, they’ll first like people to use the phrase “harmful wildlife trade” instead of “illegal wildlife trade.” ....
