SCHOOL bosses have reassured residents they plan to reopen a popular community hub to the public after temporarily turning it into a space for students. Clacton Coastal Academy, in Pathfields Road, Clacton, runs the Coastal Community Centre which hosts support groups, activities, and parenting courses. It also provides the more isolated of residents with a space to socialise with people and build relationships and the provisions on offer are not exclusive to school users. After the initial coronavirus lockdown, the centre reopened and helped keep people connected through what was, and continues to be, a testing period for many. But according to Clacton North councillor Andy Wood the community site has been closed to the public since October, which he is unhappy about. ....
Brian Archer was left homeless following the blaze outside his flat in Saxmundham Way, Clacton, last week. A fundraising campaign was launched by his niece Debbie Watts to get him back on the road after his scooter was destroyed in the fire. Brian’s daughter Bev Shortley said: “We’re totally blown away by people’s generosity. “He still needs to have a secure home, suitable for his needs but at the moment, that’s not happening. He’s just sitting in a hotel room. “The poor man was asleep in bed and now at 83 years of age, he finds himself in complete limbo.” ....

Brian Archer, 84, has been left homeless following the blaze outside his flat in Saxmundham Way, Clacton, last Thursday. A campaign has been launched to help get Brian back on the road after his mobility scooter was destroyed in the fire. Smoke damage has left his home uninhabitable. Niece Debbie Watts has set up the online fundraising campaign to help her uncle, who suffered smoke inhalation. ....
Emergency services were called to the blaze in Saxmundham Way, Clacton, on Thursday morning. The scene is just a few hundred metres away from Coppins Hall Community Centre, in Maldon Way, which was destroyed by arson in the early hours last Tuesday. A man in his 80s suffered smoke inhalation and has been left homeless. He has been placed into temporary accomodation by Tendring Council. A spokesman for Essex Police said: A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Police were called to flats in Saxmundham Way, Clacton at around 9.20am on Thursday 10 December following reports of a fire. ....
