13% of the population they account for 35% of missing persons cases. automatically, law enforcement assumes that these children are runaways, these adults, that they are involved in some sort of criminal activity. so they are basically just, you know, swept under the rug. reporter: this former law enforcement officer started the black and missing foundation after seeing too many of these cases ignored. i can roll off shawn contract levy, natalie hallway, elizabeth short, kalee anthony, gabby petito. but nobody can name one person of color that has received that type of mainstream media. not one person. reporter: reports show this bias is especially egregious for indigenous people. in the state of wyoming, where babby petito disappeared, more than 700 indigenous people have gone missing in the last decade. but none have received the same focus as her case.
