A team of recent Upper St. Clair High School graduates placed second in the Odyssey of the Mind In-Person World Finals 2021, held June 11-12 in Orlando, Fla. Team members are Victoria Cuba, Brianna Lin, Joseph Markovitz, Max Murtough, Sammie Seewald, Constantine Tripodes and Eric Wang. The team is coached by Laura Murtough, Stacey Seewald and Meridith Markovitz. The team has had great success during their six years together and while this was their fifth trip to World Finals, as graduating seniors, it was also their last,â Laura Murtough said. âIt was a fantastic end to their journey together.â In addition to earning a second-place finish in Division III for Problem No. 5, âSuperhero Socks: A Cliffhanger Beginning,â the Upper St. Clair team was honored with the OMer Award in recognition of their creativity, which âwowed the judging team at every turnâ and led the judges to note that âthey are truly something special.â ....
As soon as the buses started lining up at Upper St. Clair High School, a trio of student council members sprang into action. Moving quickly from vehicle to big yellow vehicle, juniors Sarah Christensen, Molly Maher and Tori Slagle knocked politely on the front doors and were greeted by friendly drivers who were in for a big surprise. âThank you!â the students said as they delivered bags full of baked goods and letters of gratitude to each of the good folks behind the wheel. The occasion was School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, and on the afternoon of Feb. 26, student council members in ninth through 12th grades were out in force to display a variety of well-wishing signs and banners. Even the schoolâs Panther mascot was on hand to help cheer on the drivers as they sampled the goodies delivered by Sarah, Molly and Tori. ....
