trump administration failed. and tonight, his message to americans and now a divided congress. this is what we are watching this hour. we want to welcome the viewers here in the united states and around the world. at this hour, i m kate bolduan. let s start with the urgent search for survivors at that huge earthquake in turkey and syria. the death toll is over 5,000 people killed and that number is to rise. the pictures of the reality of the aftermath of the quake are devastating. thousands of buildings collapsed, and the weather is making already challenging rescue efforts just that much harder, and add to that, the dissional reality that some of the places were in crisis. take northwest syria for example with more than 4 million people were already relying on humanitarian assistance there. there have been moments of light in the heartbreaking images. this video is showing a small girl being rescued after crawling out of a collapsed building. you can just imagine. we go to
Going into Tuesday’s State of the Union address, President Joe Biden sees a nation with a glowing economic future. But Republicans take a far gloomier view. They say the nation is saddled with a crushing debt and that Biden is largely responsible for inflation. The reality is that the United States is on an economic tight rope. It s trying to balance efforts to reduce inflation while trying to avoid falling into a recession. And that s with the apparent contradiction of Federal Reserve’s interest rate increases and the unemployment rate at a near 54-year low. Neither side is really capturing the complete picture about the actual state of the economy.
