Concord Police chief presents Medal of Valor, Purple Heart to wife of Officer Shuping

The Concord City Council Chambers were somber Thursday evening as Concord Police  Chief Gary Gacek presented the Medal of Valor and Purple Heart awards. 
In honor of National Police Week, Gacek presented the Medal of Valor award and Purple Heart award to Haylee Shuping, on behalf of her husband, Officer Jason Shuping.
Shuping died after being shot while responding to a report of a crash December 16, 2020. Officer Kaleb Robinson, Shuping s partner was also shot and wounded during the incident and is said to have shielded Shuping with his body once Shuping was down. 
At the presentation Thursday evening, other city officials, county officials, private business and other law enforcement officers were recognized for their actions and support of Concord Police Department following the death of Jason Shuping.  ....

Robert Kunze Memorial Car Show is Today at Bishop Carroll High School
A car show to honor the memory of fallen Sedgwick County Robert Kunze will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 15th at Bishop Carroll High School (8101 West Central).
The Robert Kunze Memorial Car Show will raise money to restore Kunze’s 1966 Pontiac GTO, a restoration project that Kunze had just begun himself prior to his death in the line of duty in September of 2018.
The event coincides with National Fallen Peace Officers Day.
Kunze was a 12 year veteran of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and was posthumously awarded a Congressional Badge of Bravery last year. ....

Cheers: Two Fayette County police officers received the Congressional Badge of Bravery this week for their heroic actions during a 2018 shooting at a Masontown magistrate’s office. Masontown Borough Police Chief Ronald Scott Miller and German Township Corporal John Lingo III were integral in stopping an active shooter at the office in 2018. While the gunman was shot and killed, no other lives were lost. The men were honored Wednesday by family, friends and dignitaries, many of whom spoke about the difficult jobs police have. Both officers shied away from the words of praise heaped upon them. Miller noted all first responders are tasked with running toward danger, accepting his award on behalf of all who do so. Lingo, meanwhile, recognized the court staff who helped those who were in the courtroom hide as shots rang out. He called them the real heroes of the day. Fayette police officers receive Congressional Badge of Bravery for actions in 2018 shooting


Two Fayette County police officers were among 18 officers across the country to receive the Congressional Badge of Bravery for their heroic acts during a 2018 shooting at a Masontown district magistrate’s office.
On Wednesday, Masontown Borough Police Chief Ronald Scott Miller and German Township Corporal John Lingo III were joined by friends, family, fellow officers and elected officials to receive the honor.
Each man played a major role in stopping an active shooter at Magisterial District Judge Daniel Shimshock’s office on Sept. 19, 2018, inside the Masontown Borough Complex.
During the shooting, Miller, then a sergeant with his department, drew his weapon to engage with the shooter and was shot in the hand. His actions slowed down the shooter’s advance, and Lingo fatally shot the man. ....
