Modi govt pushing unplanned agriculture reforms

Modi govt pushing unplanned agriculture reforms After chanting the Dr M S Swamithan formula on MSP when out of power, to now seeking to do away with it, the BJP has come a full 360 degrees. By Venkat Parsa|   Updated: 11th January 2021 1:22 pm IST New Delhi: A farmer holds the Tricolor during a protest against the new farm laws, at Singhu Border in New Delhi, Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020. (PTI Photo) The Modi government is groping for a credible excuse to push through the three controversial farm laws, following the unprecedented challenge posed to it by the farmers. Unable to get over the muddle of its own creation, the government came up with yet another gimmick. It declared that 50 per cent of the problem was solved. The claim was that the government agreed to two demands: (1) power subsidies will not be affected and (2) no punishment to farmers for stubble burning.

The government has to find a solution to the issue before it spirals out of control.  After five rounds of talks with union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar, union home minister Amit Shah stepped in the sixth round, following which the deadlock continues.
