Design concepts of the future Ames plaza sparked excitement in community members ready for the new additions of green space, an ice rink, food trucks and more to the downtown. 
The city of Ames held an open forum Thursday to receive input from the community on a downtown meeting space just east of City Hall where a parking lot is currently located. Plans for the space date back to the 1990s but never came to fruition, planning and housing director Kelly Diekmann said. 
We kind of sat silent for a number of years, Diekmann said. 
The 2020 City Council s goal-setting process set the project back in motion when they aimed to make Ames a fun, vibrant community that attracts people, Diekmann said.   ....
